Features of the independent manufacture of metal arbors

Projects and drawings of various gazebos for summer cottages are very popular and in demand among the owners of suburban real estate. Independent manufacture of a gazebo made of metal is an excellent option for obtaining a design, the shape and dimensions of which will ideally correspond to all wishes.

Pergolas made of metal for gardening: a description of the types

Country furniture made of iron compares favorably with durability and functionality. The metal frames of the summerhouse can be different in both shape and size. Nevertheless, without exception, all iron models are characterized by a large number of advantages:

  • high strength indicators;
  • the ability of a strong frame to easily withstand large mechanical loads;
  • no risk of deformation during subsidence of garden soil;
  • longevity of several decades;
  • absolute fire safety;
  • excellent compatibility with other types of materials, including profiled sheets, slate, wood, plastic and polycarbonate.

Such garden furniture makes it possible to make the homestead territory and the house landscape very individual and stylish. All metal garden buildings, including a gazebo, fall into two main categories:

  • stationary arbor, represented by a capital building, built on an ongoing basis with the use of a strip or column foundation foundation;
  • temporary arbor, represented by a collapsible design, installed directly on the soil surface and suitable for easy dismantling and transfer to another place.

Garden metal arbors differ in the material used in the manufacture, as well as in shape and purpose. Assembly is carried out from pipes with a square, round or rectangular section, as well as from a profile or a metal corner.

How to make a gazebo made of metal with your own hands

Before you perform a metal-based garden building on your own, it is very important to choose the right location, as well as to make competent preparation of the site for the construction of a garden structure. The poles must be installed on a flat base.

How to choose a place in the country under the gazebo

When installing a garden building, it is necessary to take into account the type of soil, as well as the size and uniformity of the surface of the site, the location of utilities and vegetation. You also need to check the level of groundwater. It is strictly forbidden to install the building on dusty and water-saturated soils. The most reliable is considered to be rocky and sandy soil, as well as clay soils. The construction site must be thoroughly cleaned of debris and weed vegetation, as well as to properly level the surface.

Making a metal gazebo: drawing up a drawing and preparatory work

At the preparatory stage, it is necessary to prepare:

  • hollow pipes having wall thicknesses in the range of 2-4 mm, necessary for construction posts with a rectangular or square cross section;
  • mounting galvanized staples;
  • metal bars to create the lathing;
  • any roofing material that may be represented by wave polycarbonate or soft tiles;
  • lining made of quality wood for wall sheathing;
  • construction drill or rot;
  • drills for metal work;
  • building level;
  • sifted sand and cement mixture;
  • paint for coloring metal.

You should also prepare the tool, represented by a grinder, a welding machine, a puncher or an electric drill, galvanized self-tapping screws and a screwdriver.

You can use a ready-made drawing or create a scheme for erecting a garden building on your own. At the planning stage, you need to determine the type of design. A metal gazebo can be in an open blown or closed design, with or without lighting arrangement.

A correctly executed drawing allows you to correctly calculate the required number of main supporting elements for mounting the frame, as well as additional elements for arranging the roof and installing the cross members. The height should be a couple of meters, and the width of the opening should be about a meter.

Installation of metal posts for the gazebo

On a thoroughly cleared area, approximately 15-20 cm of the upper soil layer must be removed, after which a ten-centimeter layer of sifted sand is poured onto the bottom. After the sand cushion is carefully tamped, the site is concreted with cement mortar or equiped with paving stones or paving slabs.

To do the highest quality concrete base with your own hands, formwork is formed. Further work is carried out only after the solution is completely frozen. After the concrete has gained strength, the formwork boards are removed, and all cracks and voids are repaired using a liquid cement mortar.

At the next stage, labels are placed around the perimeter of the entire concreted area for the placement of support pillars. The total number of racks must necessarily be oriented to the number of corners of the constructed garden gazebo. The erection of support racks in the designated areas involves making holes using a rotor or drill.

The support posts must be immersed below the level of soil freezing - about a meter. At the bottom of the pits, a sand-gravel layer is filled. Metal supports are installed in the central part of the hole, which are leveled to a vertical position using the building level. You can also erect a columnar foundation with mortgages to which metal support posts are welded.

It is advisable to connect metal columns from the bottom around the perimeter and the middle with a channel with dimensions of 100x100 mm. Above the support posts are tied with a rectangular pipehaving a cross section of 40x40 mm or 40x60 mm. In a similar way, all the central supports are interconnected.

Roof installation and final works

The rafter system must be welded in a level area. As a rule, metal pipes with dimensions of 20x20 mm are used for roof installation. It is possible to assemble the rafter system immediately as a whole, with the subsequent lifting to the structure, but it is more convenient to produce trusses in parts. Separately, the ridge part is welded, and then all the corner trusses. Immediately after climbing up, already in place, the rafter system is necessarily connected by additional metal pipes.

The metal frame is thoroughly cleaned of rust, as well as scale and oil stains, after which it is primed and painted. For covering gazebos of a closed type, various materials can be used:

  • lining;
  • timber sheathing;
  • lining with slats;
  • trimmed edging board;
  • carving;
  • facing by siding panels;
  • lining with transparent or colored polycarbonate.

From above all rafters are sheathed with standard sheet moisture-proof plywood, 1.2 cm thick. On top of such plywood, a durable and attractive outwardly soft roof is most often used as roofing material. On the concrete base of the floor, it is recommended to lay logs. For this purpose, wooden blocks measuring 50x100 mm are best suited. On top of the installed supports, it is desirable to mount the coating on the basis of a grooved board or decking.

Decorative arbor made of metal in the country

Most often, various forged elements are used as decor elements for a metal garden gazebo. This method of decoration is mainly used for self-decoration of parapets, as well as openings in metal garden buildings.

Usually, for internal and external decoration of the garden gazebo lining is used, which can be made from a wide variety of wood species, including alder, linden, beech, cedar, oak and aspen. But usually a pine lining is used for cladding. This is the most budget option allows you to draw up a blind parapet and ceiling of the building.

Work is carried out independently and very quickly, due to the presence of a very convenient thorn groove connection. The end part of the finishing battens fits snugly together, at the same time, the risk of formation of unaesthetic gaps is minimized. Wood must be treated with antiseptic and paint. Coating wood with varnish gives a very good result, which allows you to preserve the naturalness of the finishing material.

But, if necessary, to perform not only a durable, but also highly decorative design, natural and artificial stone can also be used, which has proven itself very well in street decoration of pillars and stoves. A variety of ceramic tiles will also be an ideal material for flooring, but in order to get a “lively” and warm, natural coating, it is advisable to use a modern terrace board or the so-called garden parquet for the flooring.

How to bend an arch for an arbor

The metal structure of the garden gazebo can be independently assembled using self-tapping screws or bolted connections, but the installation by welding is more durable. The latter option allows you to get the most reliable, but completely non-separable construction, so the choice of location for the installation of such a structure must be approached very responsibly.
