Apple tree "Streifling": features of growing and characteristics of fruits

"Streifling" is an old late apple variety. The birthplace of its origin is the Baltic states. This variety was obtained by natural pollination. The apple tree has many different names: "Autumn Striped", "Shtrifel", "Starostino", "Lifland", "Obrezkovoe". Most of these varieties grow on the territory of the CIS countries, as well as in Russia in the Middle Band. It is cultivated in the Northern, Central, Middle Volga and Volgovyat regions.

Characterization and description of the variety

The apple tree itself is a very large and sprawling tree. Height often reaches eight meters in length. The shape is similar to a boiler. The crown of the tree is dense due to the fact that there are many shoots and twigs emerging from the buds. The branches forming the skeleton extend from the trunk at a right angle, creating the appearance of a drooping tree. Fruits in 3-4 years of age, but only on short spines, and at the ends of long twigs fruits appear in two years. If it is grown in a nursery, then growth occurs rapidly.

Shoots have a smooth brown bark. The kidneys are gray in color, their shape is wide and strongly convex. Leaves are green with a shade of gray. The sheet plate wrinkles a little and curls, but not curved. Their edges are uneven. The foliage on the shoots is more in the upper part. The leaves are large, their shade is dull. They are often located on branches, so the crown is thick.

The flowers of the apple tree are white and large, they have the shape of a bowl. The buds are a little pinkish, the pistils are thick, and the columns are fused.

Features and taste of the fruit

For pollination varieties "Streifling" take "Antonovka", "Wellsie", "Slavyanka", "Papiroku". The resulting fruits have a rather large apple size. Some reach two hundred or more grams. If you need large fruits, you must constantly keep the soil moist, otherwise the apple crop will be small. The fruits themselves are similar in shape to a truncated cone. The ribs become wider at the base.

The surface of the apples is smooth, even there is a slight gloss, the skin is not thick, having a slightly waxy coating. When the fruit is ripe, it has a greenish-yellow color. And when it lies a bit, it turns yellow.

The peduncle has an average length, the saucer of apples is shallow, having walls slightly ribbed. The cup is large, irregular in shape, mostly closed. Seeds are located next to the base of the apples, i.e. with a stalk. The chambers where the seeds are located are half-open, large in size. The seeds themselves are brown. The flesh under the skin is slightly pinkish, and inside it is yellowish.

It has a loose density. To taste - juicy and tender. After the tasting, according to the five-point system, “Streifling” received 4.5 points. If we take the chemical composition, then the sugar in it is 10.1%, there is ascorbic acid, pectins - 12%, 280 milligrams per 100 grams - P-active substances.

Harvesting and storage

Harvested apples in early autumn. If you do not have time in time, then this variety will continue to hang on the branches. However, in this case, they may have impaired winter keeping quality. Shtreyfling is stored about three months, preferably in a cool place. After this period, the fruits begin to wither.

Apples in this class are table. But in addition to using them raw, you can process them for jam, juices.

Apple trees really begin to bear fruit from eight to nine years old. Then the crop increases gradually. Large gathering can begin with trees, whose age is about 12 years.

Productivity of apple trees:

  • 10 years - 10-11 kg are harvested from one apple tree;
  • 15-20 year olds - up to eight tons per ha;
  • 27-30 years - the apple tree gives 300 kg of the crop.

Landing and care

The apple tree is planted in spring or autumn, before frost sets in at night. Plants must be watered constantly; in the first year, fertilizers are not needed. It is good to choose loamy soils for planting. If it is properly looked after, then the yield will be higher. In the soil, where there is more clay, you need to add sand, compost, so that the plant can breathe. Plant in sandy soil in the event that you will bring peat, humus or compost.

Pits should be made in depth about seventy centimeters, and in diameter - about a meter. Dig a hole a week before planting to protect the plant from groundwater that passes close to the surface. It is better to plant them in high places.

Between the rows of seedlings "Streifling" you can make beds and plant vegetables. For example, cabbage, peas, radish, you will look after them, and at the same time for the trees. But with high stems, plants can not be planted. This is primarily sunflower and corn, they take all the nutrients from the soil.

Apple trees respond to poor watering: they can drop leaves from trees ahead of time. The variety is highly resistant to scab, even the codling moth affects it less than other varieties of apple trees.
