We are sure that many beginning summer residents, who decided in the spring to see their site beautiful and even colorful, are interested in what flowers can be planted in the fall. We devoted our material to this issue.
At the beginning of autumn, many of us think that in the country there is practically nothing to do - well, say, whitewashing trees, garbage removal, a couple of barbecue to close the season - and that’s all. But this is not so: after all, in the fall it is possible to plant many plants that will decorate the summer cottage in the spring, or maybe even bear fruit. Today we decided to talk about what flowers to plant in the fall, so that with the onset of warm days we begin to work in the country in the company of pretty shoots, and then bright bloom.
The advantages of autumn planting flowers in the country
At first glance, it may seem that autumn crops are a mockery of plants, but you will be wrong: after all, planting flowers in the winter has a number of advantages.
The first and most obvious plus can be considered hardening of plants - because those seeds that survive the wintering and germinate will be really strong and very resistant. In addition, plants can not only demonstrate good health in the warm season, but also excellently resist many diseases that quickly “eat” weak plants.
Autumn flower crops will easily withstand spring frosts, which even on May nights cannot tolerate many shoots. Hardened plants will quickly form a strong and healthy root system, which will reach the necessary moisture in the depths of the soil and prevent the plant from dying. In addition, this fact indicates a lesser need for watering, which means a greater likelihood of resisting disease.
What plants are best planted in autumn
Another really deserved advantage of the autumn planting of flowers can be considered their own convenience in work in the country. Now you don’t have to spend time planting flowers, searching for a favorable area under them again, constantly worrying about the temperature of the environment and soil warming - everything, you have already planted everything and get healthy plants, which means you can do other, equally important things .
Autumn seedlings that have sprouted will really save your time and energy, because spring work in the country is not simple and, like autumn work in the country, they are characterized by serious free time.
Autumn flower crops begin to develop on time, give sprouts strictly in a certain period, which means that they are already completely exposed to the natural cycle.
Autumn planting of annuals
It is only necessary to sow autumn cold-resistant annuals, which by their nature can survive in winter and spring frosts. The main rule when planting annuals in the fall is considered to be planting in frozen ground, since planting seeds in warm soil can become a catalyst for seedlings - so to speak, pseudo-spring conditions, which means that plants that sprout in this period are likely to die.
The landing area must be chosen correctly. Firstly, the soil should not be burned out by the scorching sun, which will be very harmful in a snowless winter, and secondly, make sure that the flower seeds are not washed away by spring meltwater, otherwise all your work will be lost.
Seeds need to be sown a little thicker than you would do in the spring.
Crops of annuals in October
Soil preparation for sowing must begin in September: dig the soil, make the necessary fertilizers, make furrows for planting small seeds 1 cm, large - 3-5 cm.
Seeds should be introduced in late November or early December, when the upper soil layers are completely frozen. Seeds are densely sown in prepared furrows and covered with a layer of humus with sand or peat with sand.
In the spring, in the phase of several leaves, crops need to be thinned out a little. After two weeks, they need to be thinned out again, but already considering the necessary distance for the correct growth and development of flowers.
Annual crops in early winter
For winter crops, the soil is prepared as standard - in September, with digging and fertilizing the soil, only furrows for sowing do not need to be done.
In mid-December or early January, the seeds are sown directly in the snow, if its layer has reached 20-25 cm. It is done very simply: the snow is well trampled, the seeds are laid out in rows or the right pattern, they are covered on top with the soil mixture we talked about earlier, and again sprinkled with snow to protect the seeds from severe frost and destruction by birds. It will be necessary to tighten the side walls of the crops, and again the upper and lower layers, otherwise rodents can get to the seeds.

Perennial autumn planting
Perennial flowers can also be planted in autumn and winter - they will give even stronger shoots than annual plants. According to experts, growing perennials from the winter is not only possible, but even necessary.
Carefully consider the choice of perennials for planting in the fall, because many of them will well ascend, strengthen and grow strong plants, however, they will begin to bloom only a few years after planting. So that you are not unpleasantly surprised by such an event, choose for planting express varieties of perennials that will bloom already in the first year after planting.
Perennials are planted at the end of October in slightly frozen soil. In principle, the method is no different from planting annuals, and therefore we will not repeat ourselves, we only mention the main thing: do not forget to lightly tamp the soil to save seeds from pests.
After the spring snowfall, it is advisable to cover the sowing place with a film, which will need to be removed immediately after germination.
Remember to also protect the seeds from birds and flushing in spring rain and snow.
In the phase of 3-4 real leaves, the planted plants dive, while stimulating the root for growth and planting perennial seedlings in the soil to the level of cotyledonous leaves.
