Often leaves turn yellow in a garlic garden. Why is this happening? Can an unwanted occurrence be prevented? Is it a symptom of the disease? First of all, the problem affects the tips. Then yellowness “grows”, in garlic there is a delay in development, and the bulbs become small. What to do? It all depends on the reason.
Diseases and Pests
In winter garlic, a discoloration of the leaves can be observed due to exposure to parasites:
- stem nematodes;
- onion flies.
Take a close look at the plant. If small worms are present, onion fly is in front of you. You can get rid of it with a salt solution. 200 grams of table salt are taken and dissolved in 10 liters of water. Spraying plants. After this, the parasites will leave.
The leaves turn yellow due to infection with a fungal disease. Why does garlic have problems in early spring? The reason lies in its falling under severe frosts.
In the spring, various diseases can occur. Often the cause of yellowing is pathogenic fungi. Treatment of bacterial rot or fusarium infection is difficult, it is easier to carry out preventive measures.
What needs to be done? Before planting garlic cloves in the soil, dip them in a weak solution of manganese. You can use the tool "Fitosporin" or "Maxim". Processing is carried out within 20 minutes.
If before disembarkation you did not carry out disinfection, it is allowed to conduct it directly on the garden bed. Just water the planting solution.
If you do not know why the problem appeared, since there are no obvious external signs, you can feed.
To find out the cause of yellowing of the leaves is quite simple. If you pulled out the garlic, and there is mold or blackness on its roots - this is a disease. If in the morning hours frost is visible on the grass, and ice on the puddles is frost.
You can also find out why eggplant leaves turn yellow.
What to do after the cold
If the garlic affects the leaves after frost, the situation can be corrected. Treat it with a stimulant solution. Fit:
Leaves turn yellow due to lack of nutrients. As a rule, there is a lack of potassium or nitrogen. What to do? Organic or mineral substances are used as top dressing.
- In spring, aisles are loosened.
- Make a groove of 2 centimeters.
- Put fertilizer in granules in it, it can be a complex substance or urea.
- Granules sprinkled with earth.
- Spring garlic is irrigated. The fertilizer must dissolve so that it is well absorbed.
- It is important that the soil remains moist as long as possible. To do this, it is mulched with compost or dry soil.
In the spring, another feeding method can be applied.
Take dry fertilizer, dissolve it in water. For 10 liters of water, only a tablespoon of Fertika Lux or urea is required.
Watering the plant in June is as follows: per square meter of 10 liters of solution. So the mixture immediately reaches the roots.
What else to do? Perform foliar top dressing. It is great for young cultures. Potassium sulfate or minerals are taken. For a liter of water, just take a teaspoon of the product. Then a spray is taken and the crop is processed with it. The procedure should be carried out in the evening, in calm and dry weather, so that the solution remains on the garlic, and not dry.
Organic fertilizing can be represented by infusion made from weeds, freshly cut grass, wood ash. Such a mixture should be irrigated under the root. But it is possible to carry out foliar top dressing.
Violation of the landing time
Yellowing may occur if the timing of landing is violated. Many tend to plant garlic in the early fall. This is wrong, the best option is to land a couple of weeks before the cold weather. Look at your climate zone: for the middle lane, landing should be in September-November, for Krasnodar - in November.
Garlic: leaf treatment
The plant must take root, but not grow. When planting in early autumn in the spring, yellowing will be observed due to freezing of parts of the plant.
