The time is approaching for a large landing by gardeners, while electric trains see terrible dreams about the springtime, we need to think about preparing for planting this summer. Every year, gardeners try more and more new ways of breeding seedlings in search of a better option. Here one of the most optimal methods that do not require special skills and high costs will be presented, which will suit both experienced gardeners and very young beginners.
Soil selection and preparation
One of the most important factors is the land in which our plants will grow in the future, so in no case should you neglect this step.
Nowadays, a huge number of different types of soils are presented in stores, but they are all divided into 2 large groups - universal and special. It is best to take universal soil, especially this option is suitable for those who will try their hand at planting crops for the first time. When choosing a soil, you should pay attention to the following components:
- Composition. The soil must contain various trace elements for the nutrition of future sprouts and no toxic elements.
- Ground condition. It should not lie with one click, it is very important that the soil is loose and airy. You also need to pay attention to any microorganisms / spores of fungi / foreign shoots, because if they are, then in your seedlings everything will grow, except what you planted.
- Chemical composition. The best option is soil containing mineral fertilizer, a couple of types of peat, vermiculite or sand.
So, the soil has been selected, but this is just the beginning - it is also necessary to prepare it.
To do this, mix the soil with ordinary earth (it is best to collect the soil in advance, in the fall, in your own area) in a ratio of 1 to 2, then you need to dilute hot water with potassium permanganate, about 3 grams per 10 liters (a solution of a saturated pink color should be obtained) and abundantly water the resulting earth with this solution. We leave the earth in this form for 2-3 days.
In shops you can find many pots and pallets for seedlings at various prices, but to save the budget, you can also use the remaining flat banks at home. The selected vessel must be filled with earth and planted seeds there, then it is necessary to close everything with foil and put on the table under the lamp. Despite the common belief that seedlings should be stored on a battery, it’s better not to do this - there’s a great chance to simply dry the ground.
Then it remains only to wait for the first sunrises, while it must be remembered that at this stage you can not water the earth, you can only spray with water as it dries.
With the appearance of 2 leaves on the sprout, you can begin to harden the plants (at the same time, remember not to rush too much and not "catch" the sunrises). First you need to gradually get rid of the film on the plants, then you can start creating drafts (by simultaneously opening the door and window). After the seedlings pass hardening and grow a little more, you can start one of the last stages of preparation - sorting. Of all the sprouts, you need to choose strong and not very long ones and transplant them into separate pots or jars, you will have to say goodbye to very long and weak sprouts. At this stage, you can send the selected sprouts to the windowsill, while it is worth making a tray and stand, since the danger of overdrying and killing the plant, although it is not so great, is still present.
When the seedlings grow a little more, you can already plant it in the greenhouse.
Healthy and strong seedlings are the key to the success of the entire horticultural season, so you should pay special attention to this and not neglect any of the stages of growing viable seedlings, because the number of plants and fertility will depend on this. Now, armed with theory, you can safely begin to practice, and most importantly - wisely.
