We often recall groundwater when it interferes with construction or destroys plants in the country. But it is much more correct to deal with the problem in advance when the main work on the territory has not yet begun.
All summer residents are divided into two main types - prudent, which solve all possible and complex issues in advance, and those who are trying to get rid of the existing problem when it is rampant about the site. We very often see plants that get wet in the garden, yellowing lawns, a cracked foundation and the wrong arrangement of septic tanks. Groundwater, or rather, their high level, may be to blame for all this. So let's all together solve this issue today in order to limit ourselves from losses in the future.
Ground water - These are gravity gravity waters that are located at a shallow depth from the surface of the earth. This is precisely the first aquifer.
Considering the depth of their occurrence, it is necessary to note the fact that a small one is constant seasonal fluctuations and changes. For example, if a significant amount of precipitation occurs, the water level of the soil can rise significantly. Arid weather acts in reverse order, reducing GWA. Similar factors are caused by natural sources, from where the waters feed. These are standard rainfall, thawed snow, rivers and other bodies of water located nearby.
Constantly fluctuating water supply is a serious problem for the owners of the site, because an increased level of moisture can harm summer houses, gardens, gardens, flowerbeds and even the lawn, not to mention problems with the functioning of local treatment systems, artificial reservoirs, wells and wells.
Determination of the depth of groundwater
There are many terms that are used by exploration workers in relation to groundwater, and one of them is a map of the groundwater of the site or the zoning of their location. If you possess such information, it will be much easier for you to arrange your own site, and you can easily understand whether you need to drain the site in certain places, carry out dumping, where you can build it, and where it is not worth planting even plants with a superficial root system.
Unfortunately, in our time, such geological studies are quite expensive procedures that require contracts, waiting in line, certain costs. But there are always trickier ways to get the necessary information that will help in the future.
For the greatest accuracy of the information received, it is recommended to use effective methods precisely in the off-season, when the amount of precipitation is maximum. It is spring or autumn, with melt snow or frequent rains, respectively.
Geobotanical method for determination of GW
It is worth working hard and paying attention to the conformity of the growth and development of plants depending on the water level and some features of the area. For this purpose, special tables are used, in which the plants are most common on various soils, developing differently on the soil with varying degrees of moisture. The method is quite interesting, but difficult for beginners, and most negatively, it can take a lot of free time, which is often not enough.
The water level of the soil, or rather, even seasonal variation, can be determined by the marks inside the well. Such marks are always there, since water leaves a definite mark on concrete. It is necessary to determine the highest point, the water level at the time of verification, the level at the time of hot weather in the summer, and also notice how far the marks are from the ground level. Also difficult work, which is not always clear to newcomers to geological exploration, even if amateur. But the method is in demand, especially when you need to do everything quickly and inexpensively.
Drilling a well to determine the groundwater level
The fastest and easiest way on all sides, except for the technical one. But if the farm has the simplest drill for the earth, or it is available as attachment on your mini-tractor or even a tractor, then everything becomes much easier.
It is necessary to drill a well in the soil with a depth of at least two meters, and monitor it for 3-5 days. If fluid gradually rises at the bottom of the well, this can be an alarming bell and mean that the water level is high and may increase with precipitation. But if after 3-5 days the well is dry, then there is nothing to fear. In large areas, it is customary to drill more than one well in order to determine exactly where water can be present and where it definitely will not bring any problems.
High water levels in the ground: main problems
If any study on this issue has led you to the conclusion that you still need to worry, we recommend you be patient, but do not postpone work to reduce GHS, since water can cause serious harm.
Harm for septic tank, sewer, outdoor toilet
A high level of groundwater, which is constantly growing due to precipitation, can periodically rise and flood the outdoor toilet, septic tank and sewage system on the site. These are serious problems, because water:
- in a street toilet - this is real help in creating additional risks in terms of infection, unpleasant odors and the destruction of the structure itself and its foundation;
- around sewer pipes running without any protection in the soil - additional causes of corrosion and shortening the life of a fairly expensive system;
- around the septic tank - problems with its cleaning, overfilling of levels and chambers, inhibition of the treatment of treated water into the ground, and so on. About the same can be said about the cesspool, in which water will do even more trouble.
Harm to the cellar and garage pit
Having built a cellar, a cellar like a greenhouse-thermos, a greenhouse-thermos itself or a viewing hole in a garage in a site with high water supply, we doom ourselves to serious problems in the future, because every season there is an opportunity to encounter additional moisture, which is not needed in these places .
- In the cellar and basement, water will interfere with the storage of vegetables, fruits and seals, lead to rotting of products and the destruction of the buildings themselves;
- In the inspection pit, where the instrument often remains, humidity can affect it very negatively. In addition, it will not allow you to work normally in the garage, and also necessarily negatively affect the foundation of the building;
- Speaking of a greenhouse-thermos, we can say for sure that if the maximum moisture penetrates during the active period of work, for example, in the spring, this will lead to significant losses.
The high water level in the soil and the foundation are incompatible things, which is why we constantly protect the foundation of buildings from moisture with waterproofing. And you can imagine, it’s not moisture from the soil, but direct contact with the liquid ... this can lead to serious troubles when the foundation bursts, partially changes the level, pulls walls along it, forming cracks on them. Repairing the foundation, basement and walls is very difficult and expensive, by tightening the walls of the house with special metal structures and pouring glass or other materials under the foundation.
Groundwater penetrates almost everywhere, and therefore easily replenish the level of wells. If your site has one, and there is a cesspool or street toilet nearby, and a high water supply is tied into the complex, you will no longer be able to drink from the well. Depending on the type of groundwater, composition and other characteristics, it is likely that water from the well cannot be used at all. For example, it is with a high level of salt, which means it is undesirable to drink poultry and pets, it is inconvenient to wash, since such water does not remove soap products from tissues and so on.
There is an opinion that groundwater does not affect the plant as negatively as its frequent stagnation and content. That is, the constantly “floating” ground water does not harm trees, shrubs and other plants in the garden, but the high level, which is set in spring or autumn, often has a very detrimental effect. An incomprehensible liquid that comes from, say, a car wash or car repair shop, some laboratory with chemicals and other dangerous places, stagnates in one place and poisons the plants through the root system. But this is in rare cases, more often it happens that the plants simply get wet because of a glut!
Groundwater level reduction
Water reduction on the site is the main method of dealing with high GW. It is very correct to start all water reduction measures on the site even at the time of its preliminary inspection, before the construction of buildings or the planting of the garden. But you can also carry out similar work in an already finished summer house, however, it will be a little more complicated and take more time, since you will need to go around the buildings, follow the plan and so on.
Arrangement of a pond to reduce waterlogging in the country
You can equip a water structure in different ways, but more often we use foundations and films so that there is clean water inside it. But today it’s the opposite, because you need not stop the water, but rather, let it inside the so-called foundation pit. The bottom can be overlaid with stones, after making a pillow of gravel or gravel, or, in general, using construction waste. Thus, right in the middle of the site, where a drainage pond is often built, you can get a pond even with clean and clear water, which now will not fill the cellars and observation pits in garages.
Drainage systems for drainage
Previously, we considered other drainage systems in the country, and therefore we only recall them, but we will not go into details, because the necessary information is already available in the articles on drainage and drainage systems.
Pay attention to the fact that drainage systems are open and closed, wall, deep and others, which correspond precisely to the requirements set by the level of groundwater on the site.
A good example can even be wells and boreholes, which are fed precisely by groundwater. Washing, washing, watering, and even water for drinking and cooking can be taken from these sources. Naturally, you can’t just take water from a five-meter well and immediately drink it without any treatment, you must use the depth of water intake much more, and you must also clean the liquid with filters and neutralize its negative components by boiling.
Groundwater Problem Solving (video)
Problems with the groundwater level in the country are very serious, so you have to carry out a lot of additional work to limit the access of water to buildings and plants. And therefore, DachaDecor.ru once again reminds us that everything must be done on time. And even if you just purchase a site, one of the mandatory stages of the inspection should be to obtain information about the GWP.
